Privacy Policy
Last reviewed on May 7, 2026
This policy describes how AllSymbols.org (“AllSymbols”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you visit the site. AllSymbols is a Unicode symbol reference. We do not run user accounts, we do not sell products, and we do not require sign-up to use any feature of the site.
What we collect
AllSymbols collects only the information needed to operate the site, measure aggregate usage, and serve advertising. Specifically:
- Server log data. Standard web-server logs may record your IP address, browser user agent, the page requested, the referring URL, and a timestamp. This is normal traffic data and is used for security and abuse prevention.
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used in aggregate — which pages are visited, approximate location at the country or region level, device category, and how visitors arrive. Google Analytics may set cookies (see the cookie policy).
- Local storage. Your browser may store the symbols you have recently copied or favorited so that the home page can show them on your next visit. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us.
- Advertising data. Google AdSense and its third-party vendors may set cookies and similar identifiers to serve and measure ads. Details are in the “Advertising” section below.
We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or payment data through the site itself. If you choose to email us, we receive whatever you send and use it only to respond.
How we use information
- To deliver pages and tools you request.
- To understand site performance and improve it.
- To prevent abuse, spam, and security incidents.
- To deliver and measure advertising shown alongside content.
- To respond to messages you send us.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use the data to build user profiles for purposes outside operating and improving the site and its advertising.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. AllSymbols uses cookies for analytics and advertising. The full list of cookie categories, what they do, and how to opt out is on the cookie policy page.
Advertising and Google AdSense
AllSymbols uses Google AdSense to display advertising. Google is a third-party vendor that uses cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other websites.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google Ad Settings.
- You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info or YourOnlineChoices.
- For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see Google's privacy and terms.
Other advertising vendors that participate in Google's ad network may also use cookies and other identifiers consistent with their own privacy policies. A current list is available through Google's ad-tech transparency tools.
Third-party services
We rely on the following third parties to operate the site:
- Google Analytics for aggregated usage measurement.
- Google AdSense and its ad partners for advertising.
- The site's hosting provider, which receives normal request data to deliver pages.
Each of these processes data under its own terms. We do not share data with anyone for purposes unrelated to operating the site.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over the personal information we hold about you.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate data, to ask for deletion, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. The legal bases we rely on are legitimate interests (operating and improving the site, security, advertising) and consent (where required for non-essential cookies). You may withdraw consent at any time by adjusting cookie controls or browser settings.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. AllSymbols does not sell personal information in the everyday sense of the word. The use of advertising cookies may, depending on interpretation, be treated as “sharing” under the CPRA; the cookie policy describes how to opt out.
Other jurisdictions
If your local law gives you privacy rights similar to those above, you may exercise them by contacting us. We will respond consistent with applicable law.
How to exercise your rights
Send a request to [email protected]. Include enough information to identify the request (for example, the IP address range or browser identifier you believe is yours). We respond within the time required by your local law, which is generally 30 days under GDPR and 45 days under CCPA.
Children
AllSymbols is a general-audience reference site. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a message to us, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
Data retention
Server logs are retained for a short period as needed for security and debugging, generally up to 90 days. Analytics data is retained according to the retention setting in Google Analytics; we use a retention period of 14 months for event-level data. Advertising cookie identifiers are managed by the relevant ad vendor according to its own retention policy. Email correspondence is retained as long as needed to handle the matter and any follow-up.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We rely on the security controls of our hosting provider and on standard web-platform protections. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect data we receive.
International transfers
The service providers listed above may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required by law, transfers of personal data outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last reviewed” date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be highlighted on the home page or in a banner for a reasonable period. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
