Cookie Policy

This page explains the cookies and similar storage technologies used on AllSymbols.org, why they are used, and how to control them. Read it together with the privacy policy.
What is a cookie
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. Cookies allow a site to remember information about your visit — for example, that you have already been shown a banner, or that an analytics service has assigned an anonymous identifier to your browser. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel tags; this policy treats them together.
Cookies used on AllSymbols
Strictly necessary
The Site does not require any cookies to display the catalog or run its tools. The Unicode converter and text generator are entirely client-side and do not set cookies. There are no login or shopping-cart cookies.
Functional (local storage)
The home page may store a short list of your recently copied or favorited symbols in your browser's local storage so it can show them on your next visit. This data does not leave your device, is not sent to any server, and can be cleared at any time using your browser's site-data controls.
Analytics
The Site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate usage. Google Analytics may set the following cookies:
| Cookie | Purpose | Typical lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes unique browsers for analytics. | Up to 2 years |
| _ga_<container-id> | Maintains session state for GA4 measurement. | Up to 2 years |
Analytics cookies do not contain your name or email. Where required by your local law, analytics is enabled only after you give consent.
Advertising
The Site uses Google AdSense to show advertising. Google and its third-party advertising partners may set cookies and similar identifiers to:
- Show ads based on your visit to this and other sites (personalized advertising).
- Cap the number of times you see the same ad.
- Measure ad performance and detect ad fraud.
Common advertising cookies include those set on the doubleclick.net and google.com domains. The exact list of advertising vendors evolves over time; an up-to-date list is available through Google's ad-tech transparency tools and through the YourOnlineChoices tool.
Your choices
Manage personalized advertising
- Google Ad Settings: turn off personalized ads from Google for your account by visiting https://www.google.com/settings/ads.
- Industry opt-out tools: use aboutads.info (US) or YourOnlineChoices (Europe) to opt out of personalized advertising from many vendors at once.
- Browser-level controls: most browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely or send a Global Privacy Control signal that we honor where applicable.
Manage analytics
Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to prevent your browser from sending data to Google Analytics. Where the Site shows a consent banner in your region, declining analytics consent has the same effect.
Clear cookies
You can delete cookies and local storage at any time from your browser settings. Removing functional storage will reset the “recently copied” list on the home page; nothing else on the Site depends on it.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
The Site does not respond to historical Do Not Track headers, which were never widely implemented. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal where required by law as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
Changes to this policy
This page is updated as the Site adds or removes services that use cookies. The “Last reviewed” date reflects the most recent revision.
